What does it mean to “rest”?

Breath, Pray, Rest.

What does it mean to rest in God? I didn’t think I have a problem with the idea of taking a rest until recently I realized what a shallow view I had.

The Bible Project Podcast has been my favorite podcast since the first day I start listening. “The Seventh Day Rest” series was especially enlightening. My view of a rest day has always been simple; I take a day off to honor God and to quiet my mind, to prevent myself from burnout, and to reflect and appreciate life. But boy, what a shallow understanding of the rest day! After listening to the podcast series, I am ashamed of how self-centered I’ve been in approaching the sabbath. I enjoy going to church every Sunday and worshiping God with the congregation, but it was for me to rest, for me to catch a breath, for me to rejuvenate.

How to practice calligraphy daily

I used to think that in order to be really good at calligraphy I have to spend a lot of time to practice calligraphy.

While true, that mindset is hindering me in taking the initial steps to learn new things. Before I even make the first steps I’d be giving up thinking I won’t have the time to master it, so why even bother to practice calligraphy?

Until one day I saw a woman knitting in the subway. First I thought it’s so cool that she was just minding her own business knitting in the busy rush-hour train ride, and then I noticed she got off the train only in a couple of stops. So in total, she probably knitted for 10 minutes.

Hand Lettering & Calligraphy Books for Beginner

In this post, I am listing 6 books for anyone who is starting their lettering or calligraphy journey.

People often ask me on the topic of lettering and calligraphy. And I can really nerd out about the techniques, the tools, and resources. One of the ways that helped me improve on my calligraphy and lettering style is learning from books. There are so many books out there it can be overwhelming. Because I am not so much of an avid reader, therefore I tend to choose books with just enough educational text and more diagrams and imagery examples rather than a wordy explanation. So here I am sharing with you the books I found very helpful in learning and improving my chops.

12 Purrfect Gifts for Cat Mom

Here are my top 12 purrfect gifts for those hard-to-please cat lover in your life. The following gifts are unique and will surely gain instant approval from your strange cat friends, especially that cat mom.

As a cat lover myself, I often get gifts from friends that are cat-related. Although always well intended, the gift itself might be kind of meh. For instance, when I received a t-shirt with a cat print all over it, I don’t think I ever wore it once. We cat people can be very particular about stuff with cat print all over it.

Chances are if you are reading this post you probably are not sure if you should buy that hideous looking cat-print stuff for your crazy cat friend. On the one hand, you think it looks ugly. On the other hand, you think maybe your weirdo cat friend will like it because there are cats on it, and anything with cats is good, right? That is why I am here to help.

Hand-lettering Surfboard Art

In this post, I will show you the process of how I design and draw on a 7′ surfboard.

I am so excited to share with you my first hand-lettering surfboard art. Like most artists, I like to draw on any surface that I am allowed. When a friend of mine asked me to create a surfboard art for her, I was ecstatic! I’ve never written on a surfboard before, and frankly, I have no idea how to surf. She wanted me to hand-letter Psalm 139:9-12 on the deck, which is the top side of the board. It’s a pretty lengthy passage, the first idea I had was to write it small enough for most sentences to be in one line, but then when I sketched it out, it seemed pretty blah. So I changed my mind and decided to go big. I used up pretty much the whole surface, and I loved the final result!
